We started out down some stairs to a marsh area and then continued on a wooden walk way. It was narrow (three boards wide). Haley said she felt like she was in gymnastics.
We were accompanied by Mark, Kim (an English Teacher), Keiko Kayanuma, Kayoko Yamaguchi and Noriko.
After walking around the trail it was time to climb back up the steps. One of the students counted and there were 480 steps! Wow, that was exhausting. It was humid, but overcast, which helped keep the temperature down.
We went back to the Chamber of Commerce for a nice bento lunch.
After lunch we went to Kitakata High School. Alyssa presented the Principal with a gift. We then visited several classes. For most classes we would walk in the back while the teacher continued with his class presentation and then we would walk out a couple of minutes later.
However in the music class, they sang a couple of songs to us including their school song. We sang Itsy-Bitsy Spider back to them and Sensei sang a solo about Oregon.
We then went and played volleyball with the volleyball club.
We met with the Student Council and they are right now having a discussion with our students as seen in the above photos.
Just previous to this we saw a girl named Mari, that did a homestay in Wilsonville a few years ago and was good friends with a girl, Haruka (middle) that did the homestay with our family. Mari went and fetched Haruka from class. We exchanged hugs with Haruka and then she broke down in tears. It was great to see her again. She says she will go to school to be a pharmacist. That will take 6 years of college. She is graduating from High School this year.
Finally we went to the Tea Club who put on a traditional tea ceremony for us and then after we were shown and got to make tea hands on.
