BBQ and Kitakata Matsuri (Festival)

We had a terrific BBQ lunch under a bridge today. It was threatening rain on and off and so under the bridge was a safe place for the party.

We had some yakisoba and yakiniku. It was fantastic food.

We got a picture of the students with their host families. Some of the family members were not there as some had work and school commitments.

We also got to meet 6 of the students that will be coming to Wilsonville this fall.
After the lunch we went to the town center for the Kami-cho Festival. There was a large float-type thing that was dragged throughout the town.

A bunch of kids had practiced the flute and drum for this festival.

They gave our group some wooden blocks to clap together. We went for a portion of the parade route and then returned to the festival grounds.
Tomorrow, the students will spend the entire day with their host families. Their experiences will all be different, but will be memories that will last their whole life.

I have been trying different formats for photos on the blog. My first attempts were to select a few photographs and make a comment on each one. I then tried to include more pictures, and just comment on the group. Today, I am trying a album approach. The trip is coming to an end soon, but if you have any preference please let me know. I have also gone back and read a few entries and realized that I did not edit my posts before publishing. For any missed spelled names, missing words or bad grammar, I apologize as I have had limited time and less than optimal Internet access to publish the posts.

  1. Brent - don't be so hard on yourself! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your efforts to blog everyday. This is Cameron's first trip away from home for an extended time, and seeing the photos and reading about all your activities puts my mind at ease.:) So thank you, thank you! The photos are great in any format. Theresa Gilbert
